Buddha Jayanti
India is a land of
many festivals. Among several festivals in India, Buddha Purnima or Buddha
Jayanti is celebrated with great honor in India, Sri Lanka, Nepal,
Bhutan, Tibet, and numerous other South East Asian countries including
Thailand, Tibet, China, Korea, Laos, Vietnam, Mongolia, Cambodia, and
Indonesia. In India largely celebrated in Ladakh, Sikkim,
Arunachal Pradesh, Sarnath, Bodh Gaya, Darjeeling, etc..

The Vesak full moon day is the most significant in the Buddhist
calendar. Every full moon day is a great auspicious day for Buddhists. But the
most significant of all is the day of the full moon in May. There were Three
most important events in the life of the Gotama Buddha occurred
on this day.
Firstly, the Buddha, Prince Siddhattha was born at
Lumbini Grove on the full moon day in May.
Siddhartha deeply absorbed in meditation, and next then his
work was reflected on his experience of life, determined to penetrate its
truth. He finally achieved Enlightenment and became the Buddha.
Secondly, Siddhartha became deeply absorbed in meditation and
reflected on his experience of life Buddha after six years of
hardship. Siddhartha became deeply gone through in meditation. This gained
knowledge was reflected in his experience of life, determined to penetrate its
truth. At last Gautam Budha achieved Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya also
on the full moon day of May.
Thirdly, Continuously 45 years of teaching the Truth to the people
& devotees. At the age of eighty, he passed away at Kusinara. This was Lord
Budha’s Nibbana, the cessation of all desire, on the full moon day of May.
All Buddhist devotees of Buddha visit temples, light candles, and
incense sticks, pray. Also, Several Buddhists go to the Buddhist pagodas. Buddhist
Devotees pour water at the foot of the sacred tree in remembrance of the
Buddha’s Enlightenment, birth... Devote offers sweets and fruits before the
statue of Lord Buddha. The devotees visit Visak to listen to Buddhist good
teaching lessons. The dress code is white and non-vegetarian food is completely
avoided. Caged animals are set free. People chant Buddhist pray on this special
day. They wish each other.
Buddha Purnima Significance and Importance
This auspicious full moon day was nirvana day of Gautam Budha.This
day holds a lot of importance for Buddhist people who believe in
non-violence,compassion.
Sermons on the life and teachings of Buddha are held and attended by followers all over. Buddhist People usually dress in white. They do not consume non-vegetarian food. They distribute kheer on this day.
Due to eve of Budha Purnima fair takes place in Sarnath,
Uttar Pradesh. So many pilgrimage and devotees attend this fair. Sarnath is
a major Buddhist pilgrimage site where Buddha is said to have
delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment. On this day
procession is arranged to display Budha's life's true incident.
After Buddha achieved enlightenment, he gave
his first speech called Turning the Wheel of Dharma. Gautam Budha
gave a speech to five persons in the deer park at Isipatana in Benares
(presently Varanasi near to Sarnath). They were Vappa, Mahanama, Kondanna,
Bhaddiya, and Assaji. These five people spread his teaching lessons to many
followers, who then joined the Sangha(community of monks).
Panchsheel in Buddhism
There are few loyalty to protect from killing living beings, stealing, sexual misconduct, lying, and intoxication, etc. In Buddhist principles, those activities are meant to develop mind and character to make progress on the path to enlightenment.
Gradually Gautam Budha decided to spread his knowledge to many places. Lord Buddha walked throughout North India. He taught about the Peace of life, gratitude principles, suffering of life, how to end it, how to come out from that situation, how to attain peace, and Nibbana, to all his devotees and followers.
There are three jewels of Buddhism. Buddhist Devotee

Dharmam Sharanam Gachchami (I go to the Dhamma for
refuge)
Sangham Sharanam Gachchami. ( I go to the Sangha
for refuge).
